Not sure why friend would carry out this, uneven you just happened to have a spare one laying around. Yet HDDs space so cheap these days...

The only distinction is dimension - and also you can obtain carriages to handle the smaller sized drive. All of the SSD"s i buy space 2.5 inch - ns either use duct ice or obtain a carriage :-)

There is no reason you can"t. The is just that commonly a SATA laptop journey is 5400 rpm which makes it very slow. And if you to compare 7200 RPM drives between the two form factors it isn"t price effective to run a laptop drive. But as wesil states, SSDs are really commonly 2.5" so once you move right into that kingdom it provides sense to operation a laptop size drive.

I too have actually used them as an additional drives however my main drive has been SSD because that a lengthy time now. There space a variety of mounting converters accessible so you can put the 2.5" drive right into the 3.5" mounting slots of your case.

I had actually one in my home system for 6 months and also did not notification any concerns in regards to warm or performance.

Unless the is a SSD the is no worth doing. Laptop difficult drives are generally slower (and an ext expensive) climate regular desktop drives. If girlfriend really require an extra drive and also have a laptop journey sitting approximately it will certainly work just fine though.

I know most SSDs are at this time best worth as 2.5" drives. 3.5" caddys exist because that this very reason. Everyone I recognize running an SSD is running a 2.5" and also those in desktops space sat in the 3.5" caddy.

Some people have excellent the very same with HDDs and report no problems. If it"s lying around, could as well. If you"re buying brand new, cost difference because that the 2 is minor for this reason I would certainly go for a 3.5

I operation my desktop programming / gaming computer"s windows install off of laptop drive. It functions great.

+1 for the duct tape.

I have a 2.5" SSD together my main as well, at this time fit into place however might pop a carriage in soon

I operation a 2.5" SSD because that my key drive. Mine came v the carriage adapter.

I additionally run every 2.5" SSD in my home computer as well. The carriages the came through my case had the mounts for the 2.5" developed in..

My desktop has a clues on the bottom v shocks and also screw holes to mount your SSD"s come the bottom... Sata cable doesn"t fit properly though.

HDD is a HDD, makes no difference. Laptop drive can be slow though. Currently SSD, that I"ll take any type of day...
